“Too bad it failed.”

- Facebook comment posted on a CBC Vancouver article titled “The day a mail-order high from China nearly ended Spenser Smith's life”

B.C. is a bowl of apple cider
vinegar and dish detergent, a sweet
trap designed to drown. I escape

the swat of your hand, my body
nearly another smear on the wall.
Pour Drano

down the pipes. Scald our wings
into nothingness. Did you know
the lifespan of a fruit fly

is 30 to 50 days? So short
and getting shorter
by the month.

“Fruit fly trap” was originally published in SAD Mag.
